Holy Apostle Andronicus of the Seventy is remembered by the Church as one of the faithful laborers who gave his entire life to the service of Christ and the spread of the Holy Gospel. Saint Paul himself speaks of Andronicus in his Epistle to the Romans, calling him both a “kinsman” and “fellow prisoner,” and bearing witness that he was “of note among the Apostles” and had come to Christ before Paul himself. The life of Saint Andronicus reminds us that the early Church was built not through earthly power or influence, but through sacrifice, endurance, and unwavering faithfulness to Christ. The Apostles of the Seventy traveled across difficult lands, preached among pagans, endured persecution, imprisonment, mockery, and hardship, all for the sake of proclaiming the Resurrection of the Lord. According to Holy Tradition, Saint Andronicus later became bishop in Pannonia, tirelessly preaching the Gospel and strengthening the faithful. Together with Saint Junia, who labored alongside him in apostolic ministry, he brought many souls out of the darkness of idolatry into the light of Christ. The witness of Saint Andronicus also reminds us that true apostleship is not limited to preaching with words alone. The holy Apostles preached through the example of their lives, through humility, steadfastness, prayer, love, and faithfulness amidst suffering. Their lives became living icons of Christ Himself. In our own age of distraction, spiritual confusion, and growing indifference toward God, the example of the Apostles calls us back to simplicity and faithfulness. We may not travel the roads of the Roman Empire as they did, but every Orthodox Christian is still called to bear witness to Christ within the places God has planted us: in our homes, workplaces, parishes, and daily lives. May the Holy Apostle Andronicus intercede for us, that our hearts may burn with the same love for Christ that strengthened the Apostles, and that we too may become faithful witnesses of the Risen Lord in a darkened world. Holy Apostle Andronicus of the Seventy, pray unto God for us.
