"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Our first thoughts upon waking are not merely fleeting moments. They are the foundation stones of our day, the direction our soul sets sail before our feet ever touch the ground. The Holy Fathers remind us: the way we begin the day reveals the orientation of the heart. If our first thought is Christ, then the entire day becomes a living prayer. This morning, as the sun rose and the stillness of dawn hovered over our home, my first words were not grand or poetic. They were simple. They were sincere. They were eternal: "Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ." A Heart of Gratitude Thank You, Lord, for the grace of another day, another chance to repent, to breathe, to love, and to grow in You. Thank You for the gifts that are too often taken for granted: • The breath in my lungs, the beating of my heart, the rising of the sun. • The laughter and warmth of my friend and fellow Monks, Your icon of love and loyalty in my life. • The joy and challenge of monastic life and my spiritual children, who teach me more about Your Fatherly love than any book ever could. • The roof over our heads, the sacred rhythms of monastic life, and the friends who walk this journey of salvation alongside us. Thank You for Your Church Thank You, O Lord, for Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, this holy and humbling spiritual family. Thank You for the rhythm of the liturgical life, for the Divine Liturgy where heaven touches earth, and for the quiet beauty of candles, incense, and chant rising like prayerful smoke to Your throne. Thank You for the ministry You have entrusted to me, not because I am worthy, but because You are merciful. Thank You for the sacred burden and joy of serving others in Your name, and for the blessing of seeing lives transformed by Your grace. Thank You Even for the Crosses And yes, Lord, thank You for the pain. Thank You for the adversities, the setbacks, the heartbreaks. For these too are gifts. You allow them not to crush us, but to refine us. You prune what is dead within us so that we may truly live. Teach me, even in suffering, to say with Job: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” (Job 13:15). Most of All, Thank You for Salvation Above all, my Lord, thank You for salvation. Not as an abstract doctrine or theological idea, but as the living, breathing communion I have with You. You are the Treasure buried in the field. You are the Pearl of Great Price. You are the One whom my soul loves. Nothing in this world compares to knowing You. Not wealth. Not success. Not pleasure. Only You, Lord. Let my whole life be a song of thanksgiving, a liturgy of love. Let my every word, every deed, every breath say: “Glory to You, O God. Glory to You!” A Prayer to Begin the Day O Christ, our true God, Through the prayers of Your most pure Mother, Of the holy and God-bearing Fathers, Of my guardian angel, my patron saint, and all the saints-- Have mercy on me, strengthen me, and guide me today. Make my every thought begin in You, And may my every step lead me closer to Your Kingdom. Amen.
