Our Origin Story
"The Yawning Monk Coffee Company" was born in the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona, where the sky lightens slowly at dawn, the air is still and cool, and the sun rises over desert stone and saguaro silhouettes long before most of the world is awake.
Founded by Eastern Orthodox Monks, "The Yawning Monk Coffee Company" began with a simple and very human truth: even monks get sleepy. Between early bells, long vigils, and quiet desert mornings, when candlelight meets first light and the desert holds its breath, coffee became a trusted companion. Not for indulgence, but for wakefulness, attentiveness, and presence.
What started as coffee roasted for the Monks, enjoyed in silence as the desert warmed and the day took shape, soon found its way into the hands of visitors and friends. One request led to another, and before long, it became clear that this small labor of love was worth sharing.
Our flavorful coffee is made to help you start your day awake and ready. Whether you’re heading to morning prayers, beginning a long workday, or watching the sunrise spill over the horizon, our coffee is made to serve you well.
